A state sector borrowing requirement of approximately 11,800 million was recorded on a provisional basis in September 2009, broadly in line with that of 11,831 million of September 2008.
In the first nine months of 2009, a total requirement of around 72,600 million was recorded, around 32,900 million higher than the figure of 39,698 million for the same period in 2008.
COMMENT
In comparison with the same month in 2008, the state sector borrowing requirement for September 2009 took account of a reduction in revenue from tax; this was compensated for, however, by fewer payments being made as a result of the date for some being postponed to October, and by a slowdown in withdrawals from the state treasury by local governments.
