The principle of a "balanced budget" is set to be introduced in the Constitution of the Republic of Italy. More specifically, it will be introduced in the First Section of the Constitution on citizens' Rights and Duties. Consequently, a "balanced budget" will not only be an accounting criterion but a political and civil principle of the highest order. The text of the Government, aligned with the European standard, will be considered in Parliament along with other reform measures. A rapid and constructive debate in Parliament is in the country's interest" said Economy and Finance Minister, Hon. Giulio Tremonti.
