Luxembourg, 12 April 2024 – Italy is against the Green Homes directive. A reflection on the extension of the NRRP deadline is needed. Investment in the defence sector with the EIB is a path we have been indicating for some time. These were some of the concepts expressed today by Economy and Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti in Luxembourg, where the Ecofin meeting took place.
“The Italian position is known”, said the minister about the EU Green Buildings directive approved by the EU Council, “we voted against it. It is ambitious and wonderful but the issue is who will pay?”.
Talking about EIB investments in the defence sector, Giorgetti recalled that it was “one of the issues we introduced almost single-handedly when discussing EU governance”. During the Ecofin meeting, the NRRP implementation was discussed. In this regard, the minister reiterated that it would be useful to “consider a possible extension” beyond the planned deadline of 2026.
Of common economic topics, digitalisation, artificial intelligence to improve conditions in the public administration, Giorgetti spoke with Spanish Finance Minister Carlos Cuerpo in a cordial and informal conversation.
