The Under Secretary of State for the Economy and Finance, Giuseppe Vegas, hasacknowledged that the Council of the National Association of ItalianMunicipalities, with the sense of duty typical of municipalities, has taken onresponsibility for the general situation in the country and has recognised thatthe internal stability pact is a valuable commodity worth preserving.
Given that the recent circular issued by the General Accounts Office concerning thepact could not help but accurately reflect what has been established by law, inorder to implement the undertaking requested by Parliament the Government iswilling to consider, as soon as possible, any changes to legislation necessaryso as to allow upstanding local authorities to increase expenditure on investment,with reference, amongst other things, to the use of resources deriving fromproperty divestment.
