Rome, 5 June 2024 – The Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, today participated via video-link in the meeting of the Stimulus Leaders Group, convened by the United Nations as part of the SDG Stimulus Plan for Sustainable Development, which aims to strengthen the contribution of the most advanced countries and implement measures in favour of the poorest countries.
In his speech, Giorgetti reiterated the support for the project that he had already secured as G7 Presidency. He also referred to the recent decisions taken by the G7 Finance summit in Stresa, in particular the reform of the Multilateral Development Banks and the centrality of funds for fragile countries. Finally, he stressed the importance of preventing the risks of debt distress for the most vulnerable countries and the priority role of Africa on the G7 agenda.
