Stresa, 24 May 2024 – The G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting under the Italian presidency got under way in Stresa, Piedmont. The two-day meeting, chaired by Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti and Governor Fabio Panetta, will discuss support for Ukraine and proceeds from immobilised Russian assets, artificial intelligence (AI), the global economy, competitiveness and economic development.
A total of 29 delegations are expected on Lake Maggiore: 21 G7 members, 5 guest countries (Korea, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Mauritania, Brazil), 3 international organisations (FATF, GAVI and AFDB).
The Finance Track meetings are attended by the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of the G7 countries, the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the President of the Eurogroup, as well as the heads of the main international organisations and other ministers representing countries invited because of their relevance to the topics on the agenda.
There was great interest in the meeting on the part of the national and international press: around 200 accredited envoys from 14 different countries, including journalists, photographers and cameramen. In addition to the Italian press, with more than 90 journalists, the Japanese and German reporters are particularly numerous.
