Sao Paulo, February 29, 2024 – The G7 session chaired by Italy with Minister of the Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti and Bank of Italy Governor Fabio Panetta was held at the biennial venue in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The discussion focused on support for Ukraine (Ukrainian Minister Marchenko joined after proceedings opened), the global economic situation, the issue of international taxation and sanctions on Russia.
Giorgetti, on the sidelines of the G7/G20 meeting in Sao Paulo on 28-29 February, met with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen among others, with whom the topic of digital taxation and the process for the use of Russian financial assets to compensate for war damages caused to Ukraine were also discussed.
Minister Giorgetti also met with Swiss Federal Councillor for Finance Karin Keller Sutter, Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, IADB (Inter-American Development Bank) President Ilan Golfajn, Argentinian Economy Minister Luis Caputo and South Korean Economy Minister Sangmok Choi.
