Brussels: Italian Minister Giorgetti calls for a review of the state aid system. More flexibility needed

Italian Minister attends Eurogroup meeting

Italian Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti participated today in the Eurogroup meeting focusing on Croatia's entry into the euro, the digital euro project and measures to support households and businesses against high energy prices.

Another important topic which the Eurozone's ministers of economy discussed in Brussels was the package of measures being developed to foster competitiveness and encourage strategic industrial investments in the EU.

"We are aware of the need to review state aid policy, which must become less cumbersome and more flexible," said Minister Giorgetti. "This," he added, "must also apply to the instruments already established by the IPCEI to Next Generation EU. It is a necessary step in the face of the challenges to the competitiveness of European industry, especially for its strategic sectors and the changed economic context of high prices and material availability. All this must take place without jeopardising the conditions for competitiveness within the EU by discriminating against countries on the basis of their fiscal space. Common forms of financing for strategic European projects," stressed Minister Giorgetti, "are the correct response to this challenge."
