"The Financial Stability Committee (Comitato per la salvaguardia della stabilità finanziaria - CSSF) met today to examine the latest developments in the international financial markets and the repercussions these may have on the financial system and on savers in Italy.
The meeting, chaired by the economy and finance minister Giulio Tremonti, was attended by the general manager of the Treasury Vittorio Grilli, the general manager of Banca d'Italia Fabrizio Saccomanni, the chairman of Isvap Giancarlo Giannini, the chairman of Consob Lamberto Cardia.
The supervisory authority provided the CSSF with the latest data concerning the economic crisis, confirming the substantial solidity of the Italian financial system, where there have been positive signs of recovery in the stock exchange and in the insurance market.
The Committee agreed on the need to monitor developments closely and to hold regular updates."
