- MEF-OECD WORKSHOP AIMED AT KICK-STARTING THE ECONOMY OF L'AQUILA AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE

A workshop co-organised by theMinistry for the Economy and Finance and the OECD to discuss ways and means tokick-start the economy of L'Aquila after the earthquake of last April 6, 2009,will be held in Rome tomorrow, July 3.

The workshop will be attended byPrime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Undersecretary of the Council of MinistersGianni Letta.

Held at MEF, starting 10 AM, theworkshop will open with an address by the Economy and Finance Minister GiulioTremonti.

The workshop will be attended byrepresentatives from the academic and entrepreneurial worlds, OECD experts andlocal government representatives who will discuss the topics at hand, whichwill focus on three priorities:

a) strengthening the role playedby the University of L'Aquila

b) developing opportunitiesaimed at boosting the city's attractiveness

c) seeking the involvement ofthe central and local governments, civil society and the business communitywith a view to stimulating a fresh growth for the region as a whole.

Journalists may follow theopening session (from 10 to 11 AM) as well as the closing addresses (from 4:30PM to 6 PM) by Minister Tremonti; by the Head of Territorial Development at OECD,Mario Pezzini; by the Mayor of L'Aquila, Massimo Cialente; by the Chairman ofthe Provincial Council, Stefania Pezzopane; and by the Chairman of the AbruzzoRegional Council, Giovanni Chiodi.
