A state sector account surplus equal, on a provisional basis, to approximately 6,600 million was recorded in June 2009, around 8,800 million less than the figure of 15,355 million recorded for June 2008.
In the first six-month period of 2009 a total requirement of around 49,500 million was recorded, around 25,500 million higher than the figure of 23,993 for the same period in 2008.
Compared to that for the previous year, on the receipts side, the state sector surplus for June 2009 recorded a reduction in income from tax, as a result in the main of the postponement, without any extra charge being added, to 6 July of the deadline of 16 June for tax payments made by tax-payers part of the business sector analyses regime, a system for calculating the presumed income of certain categories of taxpayers, pursuant to the Prime Ministerial Decree dated 4 June of this year.
On the payments side, the balance for the month reflected greater tax refunds by tax collection agencies, relating in part to tax credits dating back in excess of ten years, an increase in withdrawals from the state treasury account by local government and, finally, greater interest payments on the public debt.
