The Finance Department:
It supervises the formulation of regulatory provisions; it issues interpretative directives of tax legislation and coordinates the activity of Agencies to ensure the tax system is applied vis-à-vis tax-payers. It monitors trends in revenue and examines statistical data to formulate and analyse tax policies. It verifies that simplified tax filing and payment regulations are duly complied with, checking the related tax forms;

It ensures that the actions undertaken by the revenue authorities are consistent with the Minister’s policies by planning the Agencies’ objectives, ensuring overall system coordination and verifying results. It supervises the drafting of yearly agreements with external entities;

It works to ensure Italy’s participation in the development of European integration and international cooperation processes in the revenue and tax fields;

It manages relations with the system of regional and local autonomies for the development of tax federalism and every form of decentralising of the tax levying and revenue collection systems;

It raises awareness on the tax system and tax regulations, by developing and organising advertising activities and by coordinating taxpayer information and assistance services provided by the Agencies;

It coordinates taxation computerised systems and fosters development and innovation of information and communication technologies. It sets out the criteria and the rules applicable when using the data collected and processed by the computerised systems;

It monitors tax and revenue case-law, highlighting cases where there is no clear-cut stance in the case-law. It manages and operates tax-court related services.
